Ben Oldfield’s Career Story

Director, Leasing – Morguard

This series features the professional journeys of a wide range of individuals across Canada’s real estate development industry. Often, these stories highlight how rewarding careers in real estate development are the result of following your interests, fostering personal and professional networks, and keeping an open mind about what a career in real estate development might be.

Meet Ben Oldfield – Director, Leasing – Morguard.

How has education or professional development elevated your career?

Emigrating countries was tough for many reasons, but I strongly believe my educational background provided me with a strong head start in my career in Canada. Since then, I have obtained all of the RECA certifications to complement my degree in commercial real estate. I also intend to complete my CCIM designation in the coming years.

How did your interest in real estate begin?

I have always been interested in the built environment, whether that was visiting castles in elementary school or finding interest in architecture from different countries during my vacations.

Tell us about your role, including any associations you belong to and roles you may have in them.

I am Director, Leasing at Morguard. My role requires leasing of our vacant spaces and the renewal of existing tenants to maximize revenue from the assets in conjunction with our asset managers. I spend my days touring properties, negotiating offers and leases, budgeting leasing plans for the coming years, and gathering market intelligence to help with all of the above. I don’t currently have roles with associations but have in the past been involved with the government affairs committee with BOMA.
