Iain is also a Board Member of Homespace Society, Rundle College Society and a Committee Member of Calgary Economic Development’s Real Estate Sector Advisory Committee (RESAC).

Development management is fundamental to delivering real estate developments on time and on budget. If you’re looking to understand how to work with or lead a development team, this course is your solution. Iain McCorkindale is the founder and managing director of M3 Development Management, one of Canada’s foremost Development Management companies, delivering private, public and infrastructure projects across the country. Iain takes you through the full spectrum of development management, with a focus on the construction phases. He breaks down the various stages, tools, and stakeholder groups involved in a project and provides a framework to successfully manage a case study.
Throughout the course, learners will gain an in-depth understanding of the complete development life cycle, organizational structures, contractual agreements, planning, procurement, performance management, locational factors, and leadership ethos.
You also learn about traditional and progressive project delivery models including the application of sophisticated management platforms that can be tailored to execute projects across the full asset class and building typology spectrum.

Graded Assessments
The instructor provides feedback and assigns a pass/fail grade based on your contribution to a group assignment in each course. These assignments apply the in-class concepts to real world projects or scenarios.
By completion of this course, successful learners will be able to:
- Gain an in-depth understanding of the real estate development and construction sector, project delivery models, contracts, and their parties.
- Outline sectoral subgroup profiling, differentiating features, and fundamental building systems.
- Compare and contrast the seven distinct states of a development life cycle.
- Recognize dynamic variables that impact project execution conditions and context.
- Describe the roles and responsibilities of a development manager.
- Analyze case studies to practice using critical management platforms to underwrite and execute projects with corresponding project funding/financing structures and conditions.

Each course requires attendance and participation throughout the instructional days and experiential activities.
The REDL program is unique because it brings together professionals and leaders from a range of backgrounds, including instructors, guest-speakers, and industry leaders. In-class networking, mutual exchange of ideas, and group discussions are a critical source of value within this program. As a result, REDL participants must attend in-person.
The course includes pre-reading material, 14 hours of instructional time, an experiential learning activity (such as a site visit, approximately 2 hours), and a capstone project presentation session (2 hours). Expect to spend about 5 – 8 hours outside of instructional days on course tasks.

No. The in-person Real Estate Development Leadership (REDL) certificate is a robust, experiential program best-suited for individuals with some exposure to the real estate development industry. While the competencies and topics addressed in both programs are similar, the extent to which instructors discuss topics, case studies, showcase guest-speakers, and tour real world sites in the REDL program is unparalleled.
The online Real Estate Development Professional (REDP) certificate is perfect for aspiring or new real estate development professionals across Canada. It builds foundational knowledge, skills, and frameworks that participants can take with them as they establish a career in real estate development.
